Growing your book of business has never been more fun!

Summer is all about having fun, spending time doing things you love, and experiencing new adventures.

It's about fun in the sun, splashing in the water, fruity drinks, dinners on the patio, and campfire s'mores.

That's why I think it's the perfect time to focus on business development!

If you think I've lost my mind, hear me out...

When it comes to growing a book of business, most attorneys think of it as something that's uncomfortable and hard.

They think of it as something that requires a ton of work, the right connections, and maybe even manipulative behavior.

Zero fun.

But that's part of the problem!

When you think of business development as a necessary evil, it will always suck.

On the other hand, if you think of it like an adventure - say summer camp - where you'll get to meet some cool new people and engage in some fun activities, it helps shift your mindset.

Think back to summer camp when you were a kid.

Did you play it safe and only participate in the few activities where you already excelled? Or did you push yourself and try activities like archery, canoeing, painting, and more?

My guess is you might have had a little trepidation, but you didn't worry about getting it perfect. You just had fun and were open to learning new things.

It's time to adopt that same carefree mindset when it comes to business development.

And treating it like a fun summer activity might be just the mind trick you need to finally figure out what works for you.

Even if it's been difficult in the past, it doesn't have to be that way in the future.

It doesn't matter whether you're in BigLaw or a solo, building a book of business means more financial security, autonomy, freedom, influence and power.

It's time to rise!

Maybe you struggle to identify worthy leads, turn relationships into business, find business development activities you enjoy, or ask for the opportunities (and credit) you deserve.

Maybe you had a great book but a key client or change in the law has you starting back at zero.

Regardless of your background or current situation, the Summer Mini-Mastermind will help.

If you're ready to stop throwing spaghetti at the wall hoping something will stick...

If you're ready to get your own clients so you can stop working on others' matters...

If you're ready to attract the types of clients that you really want to work with...

This. Is. The. Summer.

Let's do this!

How It Works:

During this 8-week Mini-Mastermind group experience, you'll attend live interactive sessions each Monday at 2pm CT via Zoom online conferencing (also recorded if you miss a session) and complete bite-sized homework each week so you'll have a complete plan by the end of summer.

The program includes 6 interactive training sessions and 2 "Hot Seat" Q&A sessions where you can have your specific issues addressed by me. This can include anything from strategic questions to reviewing websites or LinkedIn profiles. Wherever you need help, you'll get the opportunity for feedback.

You'll also have the option of being assigned an accountability partner to get additional peer feedback on your work.

In addition to some pre-homework and a branding assessment you'll complete in June, the agenda is as follows:

  • WEEK 1: IDEAL CLIENT & NICHE

If you're offering everything to everyone, you'll never be able to scale and grow your practice. We'll walk you through how to decide which clients and specialties to focus on (at least for the next 6 months).

  • WEEK 2: UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION & PERSONAL BRANDING

It's important to go beyond being a trusted advisor and understand what you bring to the table. You already have unique strengths and a personal brand. We'll help you uncover what those are so you can begin to stand out and differentiate yourself.

  • WEEK 3: PERSUASIVE BRAND MESSAGING

From your website to your LinkedIn profile to your elevator speech, it's important to clearly communicate your brand message so that prospective clients know you're the perfect attorney for them. We'll teach you how to craft your message so that it resonates and attracts great leads.

  • WEEK 4: HOT SEATS Q&A

Bring your burning questions, homework, or business development materials to the group and get direct feedack from me.

  • WEEK 5: MARKETING STRATEGIES

Your marketing strategy should be as unique as you. Together, we'll identify all the options available so that you can begin to explore new ways of putting yourself out there. When you focus on the few that best suit your personality and practice, your efforts will be easier to execute and far more effective.

  • WEEK 6: ASKING FOR BUSINESS & CLOSING SALES

If you hate the idea of being pushy or pressuring someone to hire you, then you need to learn how to ask for business in a way that feels good to you and is aligned with your values. We'll teach you steps and scripts that will feel natural so that you can start turning more prospects into clients.

  • WEEK 7: DESIGNING A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Now that you have a firm foundation, it's time to develop a clear plan so that you know exactly what steps to take over the next 3-6 months. We know that a clear strategy and consistent action is what's required to make meaningful progress so we'll help you prepare a concrete plan to follow after the program ends.

  • WEEK 8: HOT SEATS Q&A

Bring your burning questions, homework, or business development materials to the group and get direct feedack from me.

  • BONUSES: IDENTIFYING AND NURTURING PROSPECTS

You'll also unluck bonus trainings on identifying the right potential clients for you and nurturing those prospects so they'll be more likely to hire you. But you only get those bonuses IF you complete the work and surveys. It's our way of helping hold you accountable.

Who Should Participate:

All experience levels are welcome!

Whether you're a junior associate or an equity partner, you'll learn new strategies that will take your business development efforts to the next level. (That said, the more experience you have, the better equipped you'll be to understand and apply these principles.)

Non-attorneys and attorneys looking to grow non-law businesses are welcome to participate as well. The training, activities, and homework will help you grow your business regardless of your focus.

If you're still unsure, here are some guidelines.

You're a good fit for this program if:

  • You're willing to put in the time and effort required to do the work and increase your business
  • You have a growth mindset and love to learn and experiment with new ways of doing things
  • You'd like to create a custom strategy that feels good to you
  • You'd like to systematize your marketing and sales so you can better leverage your time

This program is NOT a good fit for you if:

  • You're looking for a magic bullet or hoping we'll hand you the perfect strategy without you having to do any work
  • You're expecting 1:1 coaching
  • You tend to complain and make excuses for why things don't or won't work for you
  • You likely won't take action or follow your plan after the summer program ends (we want you to see results!)
