I love a good story
I’ve been slightly obsessed with books since I was a very young child. I loved the freedom of experiencing something all to myself. Learning new words, concepts and stories. It was a way to escape and dream. Later, I experienced the joy of sharing my experiences with others reading the same book. It was a way to connect and share, learn and grow.
My love of books has only grown stronger with age. I’m an avid reader, often reading 2-3 books at the same time. I like variety and options. At any given moment, I’m generally reading a self-discovery/spiritual book, something related to my business and a fictional novel.
Several of you have reached out asking that I recommend books for you to read. So here goes — these are the books I’m excited about right now.
A few weeks ago an Amazon package arrived at the door. I couldn’t remember purchasing anything recently so I was eager to find out what was in the box. I was surprised when I saw a hardcover of My Sunshine Away. First, I hardly buy hardcovers. They’re more expensive and I like the feel of a paperback better. Second, I had never heard of the book or the author. After a little digging, I learned that I had apparently pre-ordered it back in October and it was just released. I have no recollection of buying this book but I’m glad I did — it was such a treat. As soon as I read the first page, I couldn’t pull myself away. It’s about a dark topic, but it’s written from the perspective of an adolescent boy so it’s not too deep. Like any good coming of age novel, it’s suspenseful, funny, heartbreaking and heartwarming.
I love to keep all of my books (their energy on the bookshelf just makes me feel warm and fuzzy) but I generally don’t read them more than once. May Cause Miracles is different. It’s written by one of my teachers, Gabrielle Bernstein, and I learn something new each time I read it. When I was at Kripalu with Gabby a few weeks ago, she trained me on how to lead a May Cause Miracles Workshop. So I’m re-reading the book and preparing my materials to lead that workshop in the near future. Stay tuned for more details…
I was recently having dinner with a female judge that I admire and she recommended that I read The Untethered Soul. She had read it a few years back based on the recommendation of her life coach. She thought it was aligned with my teachings and I would gain insight from reading it. As soon as I got home from dinner, I looked it up online. I have to admit, I’m a sucker for a good cover. The horse running on the beach sealed the deal. I purchased it that very evening but I’m just now getting around to reading it (I had a backlog of books to get through). Let me know if you decide to read it and we can swap notes – a quasi book club if you will.
I’ve also received requests for recommendations for meditation music. You can check out my favorite meditation music on my Spotify playlist.
I’d also love to hear from you. What are you reading? What are your favorite meditation songs? I’m always looking for new ideas so let me know what you think I should check out!
Have a great week!
