Chief troublemaker

I’ve been keeping this secret for so long that I can’t believe I’m finally able to share.

When I first learned of The Female Quotient a few years ago, I quickly wanted to learn more about the woman behind the company.

Her story was absolutely awe-inspiring to me and she quickly became a role model whom I look up to and follow.

If you’re not familiar with Shelley Zalis, let me be the first to tell you all about her.

Shelley first started making waves and became known as “Chief Troublemaker” when she was the CEO of a research industry company (which she later sold to the third-largest research company in the world – go, girl!).

Although she always led her company differently, she got even more attention one year during the very male-dominated Consumer Electronics Show. Feeling outnumbered, she gathered up other female leaders in the tech and advertising space and they walked the floor together. As she says, her “Power of the Pack” moment became a movement.

Today, she’s the CEO of The Female Quotient and co-founder of the #SeeHer initiative aimed at increasing the percentage of accurate portrayals of women and girls in advertising.

I’m not going to lie. When Shelley agreed to come on the Hustle & Flow podcast, I had to do everything I could to hide the fact that I was fangirling.

From the business of research to the business of equality, in this episode, Shelley talks about being a female leader in a male-dominated industry, embracing what makes us different, and why it’s up to us to rewrite the rules.

I can’t wait for you to hear our conversation.
