Ever feel like a “diversity add” on a pitch?

If you’re a woman or minority, you’ve probably been added to a pitch team at the last minute.

Whether expressly stated, you know you’ve been brought in as the “diversity add.”

While you might be grateful for the opportunity, it’s difficult to stand out and shine when you’re given less time to prepare, not included in developing the initial strategy, or otherwise excluded from important discussions.

Then, assuming the work comes in the door, you might not get any credit or an opportunity to take a lead role on the matter.

It’s no fun feeling like you were used…

So, what do you do in these situations?

That’s what a Hustle & Flow listener asked and I know she’s not alone.

She shared her frustrations with being the diversity add and asked for advice on how to handle this type of situation.

It’s such an important topic so I’m sharing some practical tips on how to deal with this when it comes up as well as how to avoid it in the future.

Listen to this week’s episode HERE.

If you’ve not experienced this yourself, I’m sure you know someone who has. Be sure to forward this episode to them so they’ll be better prepared next time.

We have to look out for one another!
